agree the compromise is there

She wants to learng both, I do BW routinely and built a darkroom in the attic but for her I have ordered a C41 kit for the first time in over a decade

I guess we'll just scan the negatives and print digitally or share digitally :)

It was a complicated bargain - all the chemistry that goes into film manufacture and processing vs. all the chemistry that goes into digital camera and computer manufacture.  Processing color film became a huge liability.

And at this point, with the advent of point and shoot cameras in every phone, most images never see printing at all.
