I use a ScanSnap SV600 scanner for that
purpose. It is an overhead scanner. Place the open book on
the surface, scan, and then the built-in software makes the
corrections to compensate for distortion made by the arched
pages.
I haven’t checked for sure but I think I
get 600 DPI directly in whatever size the image is.
The platform is about 16x20 inches or so.

Hi folks,
I have a question, and wondered if any of
you may have an answer;
I've been photographing some paintings,
bound in large leather volumes.
The volumes are thick, so that some of the
paintings don't sit flat -
there is curvature along the long and short
edges. So, question is, is
there a simple way to correct the page
distortion back into the
rectangle that it should be...?
I've tried selecting the paintings, and
using all the various transform
tools in Photoshop, but there are still
curves and bends which I can't
straighten out. Even had a go with puppet
warp, with some limited
success, but still ends up with wavy lines,
not straight edges.
With all the amazing tools PS has I find it
kind of hard to believe that
there isn't an easy way to select a shape
and transform it into a
rectangle...or just turn a bent edge into a
straight one?
All suggestions welcome. Thanks
Jonathan
