Bob,

I am not sure anything can be done about the environment. It was a pretty dull day from the looks of it. I think the photograph is one of those where the occasion was more impressive than the photograph was able to show. It is one of those "you had to be there" situations.

While there as  a witness one could probably sense the "essence" of the ship. Its history even maybe. It probably inspired something close to awe. But all this is just too difficult to convey in a fairly passive image. But this is just my thoughts and I will be the first to confess that I am not a sailing ship photographer. Maybe others on the list who routinely photograph sailing vessels can add to the thread.

Best wishes,

Andy

Thanks Andy,

I can probably fix the horizon but I'm open to suggestions on the environment.  The ship was on Lake Erie near Put-In-Bay, OH.  What could I do to add interest?

Thanks,
Bob

Bob Sull - Flagship Niagara - the first unfortunate thing about this photograph is the tilted horizon. The second is that the environment does not seem to add to the "drama" associated with the ship. Just too static IMO.
