Yoram,

For a good B&W RIP look at Quadtone RIP, it has options for Apple & PC computers, and works with Epson printers.

They have a good email circle where members are very helpful.

It is free to try, though they ask if you continue to use it to pay $50.

Look at www.quadtonerip.com/ for more information.

Good printing,

Jim Thyer.

OK, Andy and others, I've thought about this for a little while.

I've been involved with digital photography for only about five years.  During that time I've heard about RIPs being used in the printing process.  I print on my own, but have never come across a real -- as opposed to advertising -- explanation of what goes on and what the advantages are.

I know that at least one Forum member uses a RIP; anyone care to help me out? I have an Epson 3800 that does very good black and white; should I care about a RIP???

Hello dearest PF members,

While it seems like y’all have run out of photographic topics to talk about, consider contributing to the members exhibit and add your $.02 to the conversation about the photographs … and don’t please jump on the opinions expressed by well meaning commentators. :)

So, the exhibit can be seen at two locations on the web: http://people.rit.edu/andpph/gallery.html and at http://www.davidhazy.org/andpph/gallery.html

The submission instructions can be found at: http://people.rit.edu/andpph/gallery-sub.html

Currently there are photographs by Vollach, Knuth and Mitchell waiting for this weekend’s update.

Thank you,

Andrew Davidhazy for the gallery staff currently on vacation in Tortuga.
