Don, I have experienced similar response from my digital camera when photographing highly saturated or subjects that maybe are reflecting at very specific wavelengths which is what I think might be happening with the sheen of the bug. With film I had no problem but with digital it seems that these colors or quality of the reflection is outside the capability of digital devices to record in their full glory. Just my corroborating observation not based on any real and factual explanation.
