I agree.  It seems as if there are at least two things being discussed but being conflated with each other.
Simply stated, it looks like variance in total light transmitted as a function of aperture and leaf shutter speed.  And, the other is the correct amount of light to illuminate the negative in order to attain 'correct' exposure and what 'correct' exposure means.

While interesting, perhaps it is time to move on.
