I was hired by the Corcoran to go into their basement and shoot a large collection of marble sculpture. When I got to it, it was not as expected. There had been a heavy rainfall and the basement was flooded under two feet of sewer water and although it didn’t smell like it, it looked like shit. I waded around and shot the two dozen or so marble figures, souped the film, and found they were the basis for a big lawsuit. When they bought the negs, I knew something was gonna hit. It turned out they were in storage for the Remington or other sculptor’s estate. As I recall, they did not hire the two ladies from Germany to do the cleaning.
