And then try a book called Secrets of Studio Still Life by Perweiler. It is at Amazon. Take a peek at The Easy Expert by Morton Marsh (1978) to see color shots made with a 200Watt tungsten bulb by both Faul guys.

Hi, everyone.

I need help with a question I have that relates to flash units and studio lighting.

My specific project requires that I use static lights (if possible) in place of strobes or flash units (on or off camera). I am trying to replace the flash units I now use with static lights that will provide the same amount of light.

My question:

1. How can I calculate and convert the amount of light emitted by a flash unit based on its guide number ? Lights are usually measured in Watts, Lumens, Candles and other units. How can I calculate this value (or values) for my flash unit so that I can buy studio static lights that produce the same degree of illumination ?

Thank you all in advance for your help.

Joseph.

PS: Any recommendation of book titles that cover this subject (the mathematics of flash and studio lighting calculation) will be very appreciated.
