The Shard is nice, but I am much more in favor of Winnie’s cigar or gherkin. Getting into one of the offices on the top floor isn’t really easy, so the views are. Last time I was there, I couldn’t shoot out the windows for (security) reasons. I can just imagine what they’ll say at The Shard when I show up with a Gitzo and a Noblex and change film.

Hi Dan
You're probably right about the Shard's future! My underlying concern is that London's wonderful historical and Architectural inheritance will be swallowed under a tidal wave of ever higher building in steel and glass...And obscured from a our sight and thus our cameras. At least the Shard won't be guilty of that.

But I do like your photo! People are often too busy admiring amd photographing the obvious and not looking at everything else.

Re: Comments below on my latest picture --

I'm a lover of the "Shard" building - (and the super view from the top) - OK it's very very modern, but the so was St.Paul's in its day.  In a 100 years it will be an ancient monument and a protected building.

As to the photo - at these touristy attractions I often look as much at the other visitors as at the skyline view - visitors often do such interesting things, as in the shot (one of many) shown this week.  The visitor on the left was a happy chance contrast to the other two persons, but the composition was foreseen and was waited for - one shot only got the right arrangement.
