I agree with Emily here. At a workshop I was taught to format in the camera
I was going to use. Even if card had been formatted in another camera, I
would start by formatting it in the camera I was going to use it in. Of
course, this is AFTER you have offloaded all the images and hopefully backed
them up.

I find it's really necessary to reformat the card in the camera you're going
to use it in, even when all your cameras are the same model.
