the exif file (or side car) is for reference only back to the raw file not to the processed RAW result file (tiff psd etc..) so that file isn't linked to anything.  its just reference if you decide to reopen you RAW file.  It will have those settings.    Smart filters and layers create a file that is basically referenced and then used in procedural non destructive  way.
