Clearly, it's not for everyone! 

I just noticed that photojojo.com sells snap-on pinhole lens caps for Canon or Nikon SLRs.  It's actually not a hole but a clear dot in a plastic film they say.   I have one I made myself from a Canon EOS body cap and a sheet of monel with a tiny hole drilled in it.  I bought a set of pinholes in 1996 and chose one that's near optimum for the sensor plane distance.  I don't know how serious dust import might be.  It works well.
