I know it's not corrupt. I wish to use the Edit In command to keep
the link between the image and LR active for archiving purposes.

The solution in that case, which sounds similar to yours, was to
delete the lightroom preferences file. Read the thread, it's not
long, and check out the instructive links. (You'd need to reset all
your lightroom preferences.)
