Well I think it could.  It would have to basically work like a multiple exposure and every so much exposure or so much time the data would be written out and then added to the previous time slice.   I think though that shadows would be hard as you might never get enough shadow exposure to in some cases to ADD.  So maybe it Dumps only those pixels that exceed a certain value so as to allow for enough electrons to build up in the shadows.
?????   Hmm.   I can talk to my brother about it since hes a patent holding electrical engineer chip designer.
