I can add something to this conversation, I think.  I haven’t followed it thoroughly, and I may have missed mention of it, but I once did a paper on the Fibonacci Sequence (believe it or not).  See www.math.temple.edu/~reich/Fib/fibo.html.  I think it proves the connection between art and math.
