Cleaning the contacts is a good inexpensive place to start.  If you can, very  gently use a soft pencil eraser like a pink pearl,  then wipe them with a lint free cloth dampened with 70% alcohol.   I use alcohol swabs used by diabetics prior to testing their blood sugar  or insulin injections.

hey gang,

My D200 autofocus is doing weird things. I've noticed, recently, that it sounds like gears skipping in the lens. That particular lens I had repaired for actual damage issues, so I thought it was just a poor repair job. But then another lens started acting up. So, I tried both lenses on my D300s and they work fine there. So, the culrpit is the D200 body. Is there a setting that adjusts how the autofocus communicates with the lens motor? Do I need to clean the contacts (with what)? I fear that I'm just damaging the lenses using autofocus on this camera.
