I've borrowed this scanner for a month or two and, since Nikon does not support it on Macs with Intel chips, I am forced to use VueScan.

one last thought

As I mentioned before I have a dedicated windows 98 machine with a horrendously fast (and expensive) SCSI card and drives on my network to support my hideously expensive A3 film scanner. Reason is the scanner only talks to win98 ! No chance I'd abandon a scanner that sold for 30 grand just to 'upgrade' my OS..

Maybe acquire an old Mac or PC of the appropriate vintage for the Nikon scanner and run that computer remotely on your network purely for scanning shouldn't cost you much at all if anything ;)

There's a free program for this here:
http://www.microsoft.com/mac/remote-desktop-client
"This free download runs natively on Intel-based Macs only".. and drives PCs remotely ..you'll not need a whole computer this way, once the PC is set up you'll remove the keyboard, mouse and screen and run just the PC box and the scanner as I do.

for Apple to Apple see here:
http://www.apple.com/remotedesktop/

you may even have an old laptop or computer lying about that'll fit the bill without aving to outlay a cent! =D
