A very interesting and thorough discussion. There are several interesting legal cases here in USA around street photography. Ron Gallella a photojournalist (aka paparazzi) was ordered by a judge to keep at least 150 feet from Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis after she brought suit. Previous to this every place she went his camera clicked away, often from a close position. To him it was $. For her, because of his incessant pursuit it became an invasion of privacy. The judge agreed. Gallella was also punched in the face by Marlin Brando. Broke his jaw and knocked out five of his teeth (according to Wikipedia). Gallella’s photographs have been published all over the media but also have been included in many museum collections and exhibits. Currently I am looking at a book of Amy Arbus’s photographs compiled from her work for The Village Voice from 1980 to 1990. A weekly column she photographed for highlighting street fashion.
