Hello Again, Bill:
I donât remember how I came upon the lens, but I frequently buy old
photographic equipment at antique and thrift stores; I used to buy them through
e-Bay. I donât remember where I found this one, but wish I could. I
did buy them to actually use them with large format cameras; this could have
been on a camera Iâve purchased. This lens is beautiful. At least
part of it is brass (it looks like).

I
found this: >>>25. Grant S RAY b. 28 Dec 1898, Peru, Miami Co
IN, m. Ruth CARSON. >>> Grant died 15 Sep 1967, Washington, DC.
[22] >>> Children: >>> [2 sons, possibly
living]It might be possible to find more info in the Obits in the
Washington Post. Since the Navy historical folks refer to the "Grant S.
Ray Collection," it's likely the photos were donated as a group.
Military photographers were seldom given credit unless their work was published
in national magazines or papers--an uncommon practice in WWI. Do
you have any recollection of how you acquired the lens? Bill

I have and all I can find is the information about him being a
photographer for the Navy on the USS Fairmont during WW I.

I am always interested in large format, old photography
equipment. Iâve been cleaning out my cabinets, etc., and found an
interesting lens. It is a Regno, Wallensak Optical Lens, 6 1/2 X 8
1/2. Inside is penciled in around the lens iris, âUSS Fairmont, , G.S.
Ray USN, 1918.
This kind of stuff always excites me.
