Here's an interesting piece of tech that never saw the light of day
 
 
it's an example of what the MS Research Labs "Continuous Flash" could do - the downloadable zip extracts to a windows executable that's is very much worth seeing!

?By acquiring two digital images of a scene, one with flash and one without flash, we let the user subsequently interpolate the images to obtain any continuous flash intensity, and even extrapolate beyond the original images. This demo shows one such example.?
To see the effects, drag the slider to the right of the image up and down.. then imagine being able to output another pair of images with which further interpolation could be used in layers to build the 'perfect' exposure - this is not the same way HDR integration adjusts images and I wouldn't imagine it being usable with HDR sets.
