To add to the HDR discussion... Jack Howard, a former editor at POP PHOTO that I worked under (and still do at the Adorama Learning Center) wrote a wonderful book on HDR imaging. In the book, he delves into the theory and techniques for making the most out of an HDR image. The book is available either electronically or in soft cover and is worth reading, IMO. Hope this helps.
