Friends,
I have another way to preview pictures. I brought in one of my old analog TV's, which can plug into the camera with the RCA jacks, and kids can preview with it while the 5 computers are busy. It allows them to do some pre-editing to remove weak images from the folder. The screen is large enough that a group can work together. I also use the TV to play videos for groups.

I also have the kids make contact sheets for me in Photoshop for kids working in digital photography. They don't have to be printed out, but take up less room on the hard drives then all the images in the folders. Contact sheets can be made in Photoshop under File, Automate, Contact Sheet II. It takes some time for processing, but it is faster for me to look at the work. I do not keep a printer in the room anymore except the printer for text work. The kids would run through the ink doing draft prints and I make them send them out or print them at home. I also grade final prints on the monitor in the evening. There is a folder on my computer where the kids file their work for me to see or they hand me a flash drive. Next year, I am requiring everyone to purchase a flash drive.

I have not tried Picassa yet, but the district has installed in on our computers. I have heard good things about it.

Chris,

All you need is Google's Picasa.  It's a free download and a terrific
program.  You put your stuff in "My Pictures" and it plays a slide show.
There are probably other free slide show downloads.  I have one of those
picture frame things that is OK but very small. I'd like to have several
to do an "Art" project. Maybe hang them on the wall with prints.
