Try farm stores, hardware stores or Edmund Scientific.  There are a lot of practical uses for big magnets.  Or just find a large junk speaker and use the magnet out of that.  An alternative is an electromagnet that is sold for erasing video tapes.  Radio Shack should have those.  That is were I bought mine years ago anyway.
