I can never get them to resolve into one image at all; I get a narrow
strip in the middle that's from both images, but much wider flaps on each
side that are individual.  Which direction head tilt are you suggest? 
Forward / back, or side to side?

A friend has done a lot of work with digital stereo intended to be viewed
using an optical viewer over the screen; this avoids color problems, and
simplifies the processing.  Viewer is intended for viewing prints, but if
the screen images are the right size and spacing....
