Well Linda in the process of the mess both of the bad ones were reformated. No help this time. One of the reps told me that these drives were only machine tested and they had a rate of 1 to 2 percent that were bad in the box. That seems incredibly high for most manufacturing processes or speaks volumes about the QC. It might be one thing to make that many bad, but to let that many leave the factory bad is another. Did I just get lucky and get two bad ones? Maybe, but I strongly suspect there is much more to it than that. When I have time next week, I am going to find another number for Seagate and just see if I can get in touch with the director of Customer Service. I wonder if they really give a hoot about their product. I need to be calm, but aggravated. Able to talk in a calm voice and not take it out on the individual, but to make sure they know I do expect a product to be open with what it does, do what it says it will, and when it doesn't have people that are familiar enough with the problems to help and not just be googling and reading. --- On Fri, 6/13/08, lea murphy <lea@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote: > From: lea murphy <lea@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> > Subject: Re: Seagate > To: "List for Photo/Imaging Educators - Professionals - Students" <photoforum@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> > Date: Friday, June 13, 2008, 10:52 AM > I reformat all my external drives to clean them then drag > and drop > files to them. > > Works like a charm. > > Lea > > life is short. photograph it. > www.leamurphy.com > > On Jun 13, 2008, at 9:13 AM, Mark Blackwell > <mblackwell1958@xxxxxxxxx> > wrote: > > > What I suspect is happening is there is something in > the plug and > > play driver that MAKES you use their software.
