I've had some frustrating issues with printing which I've pinned down to
out of gamut issues.
Properly profiled monitor
Properly profiled paper / inkjet
CS controlling the printer, latter colour controls switched off - no
double profiling.
In some deep colour areas my printer (Epson 1400 with a Photospeed CIS
system - very reliable otherwise!) inks deposited on drying have changed
colour from red to purple...yikes!
Some hair tones have also collapsed to produce areas where detail has
all but disappeared and the colour changed from brown to orange!
Printing letting the printer control colours - no problem but colours
less accurate as you'd expect.
I realised that this is a gamut issue when I checked soft proofing with
the specific profile selected and then clicked on Gamut so I've
experimented as follows:
Put in a HSB layer and tweak lightness until out of gamut all but gone.
I'm then using a layer mask to reveal within gamut. Result: vastly
improved and much more accurate colours.
I've also found this morning that if I convert to CMYK and back to RGB I
don't have any out of range gamut and prints are fine.
Obviously I've "cracked" the problem, but is there anything I should
check?? Alternatives??
Looking forward to comments from anyone!
