Re: Messing with an FD lens

Chris,

There is no adapter you can buy since the FD lenses have a shorter flange
to image or sensor distance requirement than the EF lenses. This means you
have to cut off some of the FD lens in order for it to be able to focus
at large distances such as infinity. Since the FD lenses have no
possibility to couple electronically to the EOS bodies all automation
possibility is also lost. Apertures and focusing need to be done manually.

You can buy and put an adapter containing a lens between the FD lens and
the EOS body but this introduces a gain of 1.5X to the focal length but
introduces a 1 stop loss in effective speed and causes a loss in image
quality especially at large apertures.

There are even adapters made or which you can build that have no lens
elements within but these eliminate the possibility for infinity focusing.
A simple way to do this is to take the adapter mentioned above and
remove the lens element from it.

adaptor you can buy?
