Per Ofverbeck - Tall Ships´ Race in Stockholm
Did they actually race? I know they've been doing some racing
around there. Kruzenshtern is so humongous, it's quite
overwhelming. Sorry the weather was so ordinary. A perfectly
useful tourist office shot, but there are a lot of options here. I
hope you explored more of them.
Emily,
Thanks for your comments! I have a somewhat sore conscience here; my
new Mac station is up and running, but still I never got around to
writing a review this week eiter....
There is indeed a race, this year in the Baltic Sea. Details can be
found here: http://www.sailtraininginternational.org/page.asp?partid=586
and also in Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Tall_Ships%
27_Races
I have to agree that my shot was more of a tourist snap than a
serious image; problem was, I was confined to the harbour area, while
most sailing was out in the open sea, outside the archipelago that
adorns Stockholm. And I had no way to be there...
One feat of seamanship that I did see, and that impressed me a lot,
was a Swedish two mast gaff schooner ("Kvartsita") that actually
SAILED all the way in to her allotted place by the quay (direction
and strenght of wind being perfect) - only to be told by some
official that she had to move elsewhere.... Still, I got a few shots
of her sail work during that approach, but they´re marred by other
vessels intruding into my field of view.
Well, only eight or so more years until they´re back....
