Good for you. Controlling the economics is a bit like walking a tightrope - it can be done, but not everyone succeeds. Knowing when or whether to buy chemicals in bulk involves a trade off between usage rate and shelf life and being able to process the optimum batch of prints is useful too.
 
I have not done much d&p myself and what I did was way back - One of the things I specially like about digital processing is being able to make 10 X 8 prints on ordinary copier paper before using photo paper (a bit like using test strips in the darkroom but less fiddly. On the other hand I have large size photo portraits of my paternal grandparents which were made in 1908 and still look good despite having been on display for much of their life. Despite what it says on the box I doubt that digital enlargements will look as good when they are 99.
