I have read with great concern comments from established professional
photographers about a current/ or recent. advertising campaign. The advert seeks
to advertise the small sixe of a DSLR camera by showing it in use on a beach,
The photographer takes voyeuristic shots of girls on the beach and when
challenged by the girls' boyfriend/boyfriends they do not detect the camers
hidden in the pocket of his shorts.
My contacts Down Under tell me they are at present campaigning against the
possibility of the Australian government banning all photography in public
places.
Even without the threat of such Draconian legislation Olympus is doing
itself no favours by suggesting, however obliquely, that photographers are some
kind of pervert.
I doubt whether the European arm of your company has any real control over
advertising in the Australasian market but I would hope you would follow up my
information and if there is any foundation in the story that I have heard that
you would voice your disapproval to your colleagues there and
take steps to ensure that no similiar theme is used in European
markets.
My colleagues in Australia even suggested that anyone using an Olympus
camera should return it to the company and ask for a refund. Obviously with this
strength of feeling it is unlikely that they will consider buying Olympus
products in the near future.
Although an amateur photographer I am an exhibiting member of an
international forum which includes professional photographers and
educationalists in Australia, the US, Canada, Israel, Oman and Japan, to name
only the few that come immediately to mind.

PS I presently use both digital and film Olympus cameras.
PPS although the views expressed are my own I am sure that the
members of the forum will all be interested in your
reply.
