There used to be numbers printed on the back which showed the 
adjustments.  N was normal, I think I remember minus and plus with 
numbers, and some printers just had numbers for the pluses.

I haven't taken negative film to be commercially printed in about 5 
years now, so I'm a little foggy on the details.  But that's the jist.
