Good news. The three big brands, Epson, Canon and HP have excellent new printers and real archival inks. For reviews go here:
I've gone through a lot of printers and ink trying to find the best for B/W over the past five years or so. My conclusion is stick with OEM inks and newest printers. The Epson 2400 makes wonderful B/W but it is expensive to run. My HP 9180 came yesterday. I got the way best price at Beach Photo (thru Amazon).

My Canon i950 decided to go all blue again and I am waiting for the unhelpful help people at Canon to respond again. I think it is time ro move the i950 to the print documents only position and replace it with something dependable, probably not another Canon because of their mediocre support.
