Re: Good camera for non- pro uses

Steve, the G7 has only 2 advantages over the A640 - flash hot shoe and a physically bigger sensor so that the pixels (in theory) generate less noise. I needed the hot shoe facility so I can use it for bounce flash, in a crunch as a studio camera as well as a smallish P&S for general go-anywhere photography. A small dSLR like the D40 didn't meet either the small specification or have a movie mode (impossible in a dSLR at the moment.) The G7 has in fact had generally excellent reviews: Steves digicams, photography blog, etc...No camera is perfect. Yet.

Hi all,

Happy New Year. I am looking at the G7 or A640. Any suggestions? I am
looking for image quality. I see on dpreview.com they give the G7 some good
ratings but I was hoping for better comments. The A640 seems to have better
comments from people. Thanks

Steve
