It's 8 steps. again this we both know.. yet over and over I find written the likes of "The dynamic range of an image ..In the case of a typical 8-bit digital image, this is 255:1, or a dynamic range of about 8 stops" ..8 stops.. from: http://www.cheshireeng.com/HDReye/HDRExplained.html we both know that is clearly misleading, yet I figured it was worth showing it, were there any doubt among PF members :) k
