Unfortunately, Word is now the universal word processor. So really, there is no longer any choice about whether to own a copy of Office. Either one pays for it or gets is for cheap or free by educational licence or theft.

So, Marilyn, you might as well get on about it and count your lucky stars that you have an affiliation which allows you to acquire the "educational" version.
