I just bought a cheapo Motorola cell phone.
Many cell phones 'log in' to the nearest cell tower (say every 15 minutes) so the system will know where to direct your calls. When you hear a funny patterned clicking during a landline phone conversation, that is often a nearby cell phone logging-in. This eats thru the battery charge.
