Marilyn,

This is the BEST way to dodge and burn.

Create a new adjustment layer.
Change the blending mode to 'soft light' in the layers palette.
A black brush darkens.
A white brush lightens.
You can change the opacity either within the layers palette or with the brush at the time you are using it (which is the method I use).

I use this method all the time and it rocks. Depending on how much dodging and burning you do on an image you might want to make separate layers, one for dodging and one for burning. The technique is the same, no matter what.

Good luck, have fun.

OH. Any of Scott Kelby's books are WONDERFUL.

Hi All,

When I use the "burn" tool in Photoshop on a color photograph, it burns a grey, which isn't always what I want.  Is there a way to burn in colors that are in the photograph?

I am using the Adobe Photoshop 6.0 Classroom in a Book and Photoshop 6 for Dummies books.  Can any of you recommend better resources?

Thank you in advance.
