>>>Excellent! It feels good to be published again. It's been way too long. I plan to buy a couple extra. One for the studio, of course. Thinking of presenting it to our local book store, too. Who know where that will lead! Can't wait.>>>
The problem is, and forgive me if I am wrong, but you have no "right" to present the book to a book store. Again, forgive me, I mean no insult.
If you did present it and they bought a hundred copies, who receives royalty payments? And just so you will know, almost every bookstore chain decries self-published books. If you are talking about a chain operation.
As far as I know, the idea was to create a book of list member's photographs, offer it for sale through a POD "publisher" and not push for sales outside of the group. If others start promoting the work, who knows how much money could be realized.
What happens if the book were to be "discovered" and it sold a few thousand copies? Granted, this will not likely happen, but many odd things could happen and one never knows.
I did not read the rules, terms, and conditions, but it seems to me that before the project reaches completion, those heading the project should make it clear who gets what, if the book becomes popular. Suppose Time-Life picked up the book and offered a nice advance? Again, not likely to happen.
I would hate to miss the opportunity to make a buck or ten, but it seems to me that nobody is quite sure what should be done with the profits or if there should be a profit. As I recall, the book is more or less offered for free and making a profit is not the general goal. I have a book on Lulu Press and it sells even though I am not and have never promoted it. So I know that the sales of a few hundred copies of a book can come from nowhere.
I will admit that my fears are likely silly and I am often guilty of jumping the gun and looking for the problems that will likely never occur. But, one never knows what can happen.
