Somehow folks still seem to be confused about the 1.6 multiplier
effect with digital cameras, even though it has been discussed on
this forum many times. It does not convert a 300 mm lens to a 480 mm
lens. If one uses the same lens with a 35 mm film camera and crops
the resulting image by a factor of 1.6, the two images will be the
same. It's better to think about the 1.6 factor in terms of size of
the image or the spherical angle it subtends, rather than a change in
the focal length. I think there are some expensive cameras with
imaging chip sizes about the same as that of 35 mm film, in which
case, the argument about focal length would be moot.

N.B. - this thread make me think that it is a nice idea to have EOS
5D + lenses and instead of buying a multiplier one have to
buy another body like 10D or 350D so he has a X1.6 multiplier with
no loss of f/stops or deterioration of the image ( but less mp ).
what do you think ?

I've read that they are very heavy and I've also been looking at
the 70-200 with a doubler.

Hmmm. Good point. Let me ask this question in another way. If
any of you
have the 100-400 Canon Zoom 4.5-5.6 LIS would you please let me
know what
you think of it?
Thank you.
