If the negative is properly exposed, then it is necessary that the emulsion
side face the paper when making a contact print of any type - silver,
platinum, cyanotype, etc.  

If you flip the negative, then the image will be reversed on the print.

Which way does the negative go when you do platinum printing?  You 
don't actually lay the plate emulsion-side down on the paper, do you? 
Surely you lay it down with the emulsion side not touching the 
platinum covered paper?
