> Bob Talbot - Outhouse > This strikes me as a beautifully taken record shot, OUCH! For an artist the very phrase "record shot" chills to the bone :o) >the detail of the building is so clear and sharp. > The area to the right of the building is also very nicely rendered, > and is not 'ugly' or poor in any way, but what relevance does it have >to the PICTURE of the building, only showing that it was somewhat isolated. Ying Yang and maybe even "Ying Tong Tiddle Aye Poh" ? But you put the word "PICTURE" in caps - I'm assuming for emphasis. It's as if somehow you have a view of where the picture lies - consistent with it being a mere record of the building - does not need it. For me the space in the image is as important - as much a part of MY picture as the building. Indeed, for me the building itself was a mere prop: a counterpoint to the fields and sky. Placing it central (and even cropping it closely around the building) - I've just this minute tried it and it gives an uneasy feeling. We are used to the centre of an image being the "Look-at Point". Cropping it down something looks wrong: distorted. From the perspective - the front wall four-square - I don't expect to be able to see so much of the gable end. Nope, it's art ... that's my only excuse. Bob
