: I have bee doing a huge scanning job on the Nikon scanner. Imorting
images into photoshop. Every now and then the scanner crashes photoshop.
They just close down and I lose all the images. No asking if I want to save
or anything.

Photoroy:
Scan outside of Photoshop. That is what I still do.

I'll second that - try vuescan (www.hamrick.com )

I know people like to do everything thru Photoshop ..but try it at least.
I talked the graphic design department at the college into trying it and
they cautiously fiddled with it for a week before going mad and buying a
stack of licenses. One of the huge plusses is that once you become
familiar with how to drive it you'll be delighted to find yourself driving
ALL your scanners through it - no need to fuss with the idiosyncrasies of
each different scanner interface.

Oh that's another point.. I assume PS launches the nikon scanner software
to do the scans - have you tried reinstalling the Nikon software to make
sure the installation isn't messed up?
