Since I don't shoot digital , I can't argue the pros and cons of it, or honestly compare digital with film.

I do know that I hold classes on photography and so far, people who attend want to learn about film and darkroom work (I don't even offer help in the digital photography area). Most students own digital cameras, but still want to understand film, darkrooms and manual cameras. Many are high school age.

I've also found (and this is just my personal survey, which is skewed toward film, to say the least), that those who want to understand film and the darkroom are more passionate about photography (or why would they even bother with film and the darkroom?).

I'm delighted to see this because I think it would be very sad if these students never entered a darkroom, processed film or saw their first print magically appear from a pan of chemicals. I also think that they are ahead of the game if they do understand the basics of film, chemicals and paper.

Jeff,

I agree. It is like saying that the really good paintings are made with
a triple zero, sable brush.

On the other hand, it is interesting to wonder what it would be like if
PJ's only carried Speed Graphics. There was a neat scene in "The
Aviator", where HH was besieged by a mob of PJ's, that emphasized the
tons of spent flash bulbs crunching under foot.

I think that as long as people are taking photos that matter to them and
preserve what they want to preserve, it really doesn't matter what they use.
