I second that on the cd's...depending upon the climate you live in, cd's will last longer or shorter, but definitely not forever...i have Sony cd's i burned less than three years ago that have been kept in jewel cases or sleeves (no scratches or loss of data film) that no longer are readable by any cd reading equipment i own (old or new)...new cars these days can go 100,000 miles before needing a tune up...but what about the computer parts? i miss my '77 buick...the potential for things to go wrong is a design feature in most new technology IMO...more parts means more opportunity for repair which means more sales and increased profits..

It probably isn't "more parts ........." Things don't get fixed anymore unless they are in warranty. Usually by the time electronic things break you can buy a new similar thing with more feartures for less money.....

I was in a repair shop one day when a guy came in with a eight year old VCR that was broken. The repair guy showed him average repair charges were about $150. The law here says that the thing could be fixed for up tp 10% more without calling the owner. That was for what was broken now. Then he showed him the ad from the newspaper that showed a NEW VCR with more features for under $200. The owner considered the two options, $15- - 165 + tax, vs less that $200 for a new one with a year warranty, and thanked the repair guy and went and bought the new VCR.

.as consumers, we're suckers...makes me think, time to have my Mamiya tuned up... it was fifteen years old when i bought it and i've had it for two now and it seems perfectly fine...
