My goodness! This is a worn sock!!!!

"Art" is an academic thing. Like "Philosophy".

There are certain criteria that art academics use to make judgments about a work. They study for years; get their PhDs; mix in all the right circles and eventually get to decide what?s art and what?s not. So you don?t have to worry about it.

If they never get to hear about a work then it will never be art. If they get to hear about it 20 years after the artist is dead. Then it only becomes art at that time. The day before, you can buy it for $5 the day after it?s worth $50 000.

It?s not a benevolent system but that?s how it works.

However the late and wise Frank Zappa explains it most succinctly.

?It?s art when you put a frame around it and loudly proclaim it as ?ART? ?

A man flushes the toilet every day of his life and never listens to the sound. That?s taking a pee.

Another man listens with rapt attention each time he flushes.

So one day he decides to share this sound with the world. He puts a toilet on the stage at Carnegie Hall. The place is full of bewildered, chattering people, staring at this toilet bowl.

The man comes in wearing a tux. He taps his baton and silence falls. He says, ?Ladies and gentlemen, my sixth symphony entitled ?Flush? He flushes the toilet.

That?s art?.

If no one has ever done it before (An ORGINAL IDEA>>>> WOW) then its importance is multiplied enormously. If it?s done in Carnegie hall then it?s far more important than if it?s done in his apartment bathroom with his sister and brother watching.

Get it?
