I found this quite an enigmatic photograph. I couldn't work out why the title, except as a literal description of the function of the ramshackle building. It certainly would not have filled me with confidence...
After some convincing, I was awarded a continuing education grant to study color printing of photography with Laura Miller in San Francisco. The state [of California] did the research on this teacher and it all 'checked out,' but if they'd ever had seen the building I may not have gotten the grant. I just had to make a picture of the place. The classroom and labs are through the door, behind the cazy eye.
Perhaps you can explain what you see as the enigma. I see it as zaney, purely wild.
It was fun. I made some good prints, too.
To go back now would be hard, since they destroyed the building and 'yuppified' the neighborhood.
I have a B&W portfolio on South Park, San Francisco. It looks like some industrial area in Paris.
