Actually, once you open the adjusted file in PS and save it in the fixed form as a tif in some directory of your choice, the original capture remains the way it came off your card.

However, it is a good idea to make a backup folder of the origs and, once you've completed processing all the keepers on the card, burn a CD of the shoot.

Some paranoids make a CD of the origs and a dupe folder of them as well, then work on the original folder form which they made the dupe and burned the CD.....
