I used to use several different on-camera flashes mounted to light stands in groups and bounced off reflectors or through diffusers. Only 2 of the 8 or so flashes I used were the same model and so the GN crap became so complicated that I wrote a program to calculate the distances I needed to place the lights from my subject for a given lighting ratio. Problem was that it never really worked out and required a lot of testing.

If you don't really need to know the figures, perhaps you could just say what you intend to light and ask for advice as to what kind of lights will work?
