How do you ensure that the digital evidence contains no manipulation that would alter the meaning of the evidence?
It's often easier to manipulate the evidence at the scene rather than afterwards in a digital editing program. There's certainly enough documentation of this happening. As I said earlier, someone has to testify as to the provenance of the evidence.
