From what I understand Spybot is spyware, I think I would look some whereelse, if you look around you can find a trial version of web root spy sweeper. I would down load that on your computer put it on a disk and install it on your husbands comp.

Virus checkers don't detect a fraction of the scumware that can become installed on your machine merely by browsing the web these days. Firewalls are no guarantee either. Spybot S&D will help. Free from: http://www.safer-networking.org/en/home/index.html
If your machine is infested with these parasites they may well be blocking the searches.
Or it could be something else ... but you need to eliminate the obvious first!
